Baldwins had its membership revoked after Abta said it had "failed to provide the financial information required of them as an Abta member".
Loss of Abta membership meant Baldwins would not receive financial protection from the association for pipeline monies for future bookings with Abta member tour operators and other suppliers.
However, an Abta spokesperson on Thursday (20 February): “Baldwins Travel Agency Limited has made a request for the recent decision to terminate its membership of Abta to be referred to Abta’s appeal board.
“As a consequence, Baldwins’ termination of membership is suspended from 20 February 2025 and they remain a member pending the outcome of the appeal; during this time and for as long as they remain a member, Abta’s financial protection will apply to bookings as usual.”
Baldwins’ consortium, the Advantage Travel Partnership, confirmed to TTG on Wednesday (19 February) that the agency remained a member "as it stands right now".
Baldwins, which has 11 branches and a business travel division, was sold to Manchester-based investment group Inc & Co in 2021 in a multimillion-pound deal. Inc &Co is headed by Jack Mason, a former director of Baldwins Travel
Last October, Mason was sentenced to 22 months in prison after being found guilty of contempt of court alongside David Antrobus, Inc & Co director, and Scott Dylan, who describes himself as a co-founder.
TTG has approached Baldwins Travel for comment.
