The pair met in September 2024 on a Jamaica fam trip and have "got on like a house on fire" ever since. They launched the podcast in April.
"The podcast was a way for us to continue speaking and keeping in touch, as Becky lives in Sheffield and I live down in Hereford,” Cullum-Hollins, chief executive of sustainability-focused agency The Good Travel Agent, told TTG.
“So we meet in Birmingham, hire a studio and record the podcast. I then edit it and make sure it’s all ready to go.”
Episodes tackle a range of different topics, from bizarre customer requests and crazy adventures to practical tips and analysis of the travel industry’s culture.
"This podcast is all about having fun with realistic and relatable topics," said Cullum-Hollins. "Its unfiltered, truthful, and situated around real-life situations."
Walker, a Club Voyages homeworker, said: “A lot of the topics we discuss are being discussed on various forums, on Facebook groups or at supplier events, so why not bring it all onto one platform?"
She added a lot of travel industry podcasts tend to be run by or backed by a specific brand or tour operator, and stressed hers and Cullum-Hollins’ had no allegiance or loyalty "to anyone in particular".
"The aim of this podcast is to breathe life back into the travel industry," she added. "There was a gap in the podcast world for something that was really relatable for travel professionals. A voice that helps those in the industry feel united and realise they are not alone when it comes to some of the struggles we face."
Cullum-Hollins said Tales of a Travel Agent was a passion project rather than a business or commercial moved, it being aimed squarely at industry professionals. It is not being advertised to clients or consumers.
"We’re just trying to be relatable to other travel agents as we are all in the same boat and experience the same things,” he explained.
Tales of a Travel Agent is available on all major podcast platforms, with new episodes coming out every Monday.
