Aviation minister Baroness Vere has recently announced the funding will be allocated to several programmes that educate young people about the opportunities available in the sector.
“This investment is crucial to help make the UK the best place in the world for aviation and grow the economy, with a diverse workforce that can effectively address challenges today and in the future,” said the minister.
“I want the aviation sector to be an inclusive and inviting one, and I am committed to ensuring that young people have opportunities to pursue rewarding careers in this sector.”
Vere’s words were echoed by Sophie Jones – head of organisational capacity and STEM sponsor at the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) – who said the funding will play “a key role in removing the barriers” for those wanting to pursue a career in the industry.
The scheme is part of the government’s Generation Aviation initiative, which was launched a year ago with the aim of supporting the sector by delivering sustainability while growing the economy.
