The Spanish hotel group presented its roadmap towards decarbonisation at Cop27, which this year is being held in Sharm el Sheikh.
Iberostar will reduce its scope one and two absolute greenhouse gas (GhG) emissions by 85% for 2030 compared to 2019, and its scope 3 absolute GhG emissions by 50%.
The firm will achieve the ambitious targets through training, "good energy practices, procedures and protocols" for efficiency, and energy-saving audits.
It will also replace electrical appliances, water boilers, lighting and kitchen equipment with more efficient and automated appliances regulated – in some cases – by artificial intelligence.
The brand will launch a new employee programme which will prioritise the use of low-emission vehicles, while collaborating with companies which have already implemented decarbonisation programmes.
Gloria Fluxa, Iberostar Group vice-chairman and chief sustainability officer, said: "We are continuing to work towards a responsible tourism model that generates value in both people and the environment.
"We must move on from commitment towards implementation and for this we need bold, immediate actions such as those we’re setting in motion at Iberostar."
