Sri Lanka’s president says he has asked Vladimir Putin to help his cash-strapped nation import fuel as it faces its worst economic crisis since independence from Britain in 1948. Lloyds warning on household debt
The number of customers with persistent debt problems has jumped by almost a third as the cost-of-living crisis bites further, the boss of Lloyds said. Charlie Nunn said 80% of individuals and families have less than £500 in their current or savings account. (City AM)

Holidaymakers heading to the European mainland are being warned of a growing incidence of coronavirus. Health officials are calling in some cases for a reintroduction of face masks and other measures. Mosquito bite kills easyJet trainee pilot
A trainee easyJet pilot died after she was bitten by a mosquito on her forehead and developed a fatal infection, an inquest has heard. Oriana Pepper, 21, was in Belgium for pilot training when the bite above her right eyebrow became infected in July last year. (The Sun)
