B Corps are businesses that meet the highest social and environmental as well as transparency targets. Set by global non-profit network B Lab, B Corps aim to become forces for good for all their stakeholders, including local communities and the environment.
The south-London agency achieved the certification after earning an overall score of 93.5 – 43.8% up on the current median score achieved by other businesses.
According to the data, Travel Matters performed particularly well when it came to community engagement and environmental management, receiving scores of 24 and 24.8 respectively.
Founder Karen Simmonds told TTG she was “thrilled to bits”, as she and the team have worked on achieving B Corp status for over 12 months.
“Having B Corp status is going to amplify our messaging around how travel can be a force for good and it will back up our ‘Make Travel Matter’ campaign,” she said.
Launched in 2009, the “Make Travel Matter” campaign focuses on promoting responsible and sustainable travel, encouraging people to make conscious decisions when travelling.
“By having B Corp certification we’re very hopeful people will understand how they can use our business as travel advisors to see how their travel can have a positive impact,” she added.
Travel Matters’ achievement follows in the wake of active holiday specialist Adventure Tours UK, which received the certification last week.
