Boris Johnson will reportedly push US president Joe Biden to change the country’s Covid-19 travel rules and let Britons fly to America.
The pair are set to meet on Tuesday (21 September) in the White House after Johnson flew to New York on Sunday (19 September) for a four-day US visit.
According to The Telegraph, the prime minister will make an "impassioned" case for why the president should lift his travel ban by allowing fully vaccinated people in the UK to travel directly to America.
Biden’s decision to uphold the country’s restrictions has allegedly "frustrated" Whitehall.
A "senior government source" reportedly told The Telegraph: "The prime minister will make an impassioned case for Brits who’ve been double jabbed to be allowed to travel to the US. There are a lot of family links, business links and millions of tourists usually travel every year."
A UK-US travel taskforce was established when Johnson and Biden held their first in-person meeting as world leaders at the G7 summit in Cornwall in June.
Several industry figures have since called for an update on the efforts on the transatlantic travel taskforce.
