The company has signed up to the Race to Zero campaign, which urges businesses, cities, regions, and financial and educational institutions to reach net-zero value chain GHG emissions by the deadline.
To meet the goal, Marriott will reduce the amount of single-use plastics in its hotels and roll out an internal food waste prevention and reduction educational campaign.
It will also launch a responsible sourcing guide, to educate its supply chain on carbon emissions and develop a certifications database to help properties operate more responsibly.
Marriott will also work with The Ocean Foundation to remove and repurpose sargassum seaweed, which has had "devastating impacts" on the environment.
Anthony Capuano, chief executive of Marriott International, said the brand is "driven to make a positive and sustainable impact wherever we do business".
"Even as we navigate one of the industry’s most difficult periods, we know this ambition will be a challenge," he added.
"We are proud to join companies and institutions around the world striving to tackle climate change and build a healthier, more sustainable world."
