TTG’s weekly round-up of the latest appointments, promotions, restructurings and farewells from across the trade is the definitive digest of the travel trade people moves you need to know about.

Moves this week see a former Kuoni store manager take up a new business development role with one of the UK and Ireland’s largest homeworking outfits, tasked with delivering further support to its network of consultants.

Elsewhere, a reshuffle at Carnival UK has seen an experienced brand leader – one of several affected by the group’s decision to close Carnival Cruise Line’s UK office – take up a new sales role with Cunard, with Cunard’s sales lead moving over to stablemate P&O Cruises.

Meanwhile, a true industry veteran has confirmed his plans to bow out as chair of Royal Caribbean group after a staggering 37 years, and there are also leadership changes at UKHospitality and the Grenada Tourism Authority.

So here are the latest major travel trade hires, promotions and job moves over the past week (Wednesday 4 June to Wednesday 11 June).

Ex-Kuoni store manager takes up new role with homeworking outfit

Chris Winpenny has joined Not Just Travel's business development team, tasked with strengthening the agency's support network for its community of more than 700 homeworkers and consultants. Winpenny, who started his career in travel at First Choice, joins from Kuoni and brings nearly 20 years' industry experience to his new role. At Kuoni, he held a range of positions spanning store management, virtual call centre operations, retail marketing, events and mentoring. Not Just Travel said Winpenny had "cultivated extensive supplier relationships" across the industry. "His energy and enthusiasm for business development, goal-setting and strategic planning makes him a valuable catch for our team," said co-founder Steve Witt, adding Winpenny's experience hosting bespoke events would come into its own. Winpenny said he was looking forward to joining a "future-focused" business that "doesn't wait around for the next travel trend".

New role for Mahoney as Cunard chief hails 'serendipitous' reshuffle

Cunard's UK sales director Tom Mahoney has taken up a new role within Carnival Corporation's UK operation at P&O Cruises. Mahoney has been named P&O's director of strategic planning, a role he held at Carnival stablemate Cunard for a year-and-a-half before he was promoted to the sales director role in February 2022. It follows Iain Baillie's arrival at Cunard from Carnival Cruise Line, another Carnival Corp brand, who has taken up a new role leading Cunard's UK and EMEA sales team. It follows Carnival's decision to close Carnival Cruise Line's UK office. Cunard president Katie McAlister described it as a "serendipitous moment". “Iain and Tom are two really talented individuals so it is really good we could orchestrate this opportunity," McAlister told TTG. "Iain’s a great guy who is really well known and super experienced. With Tom, there are so many opportunities at Carnival Corp. When people are really talented, we really give them the opportunity to move around the different brands and different business areas."

Richard Fain to step down as Royal Caribbean chair after 37 years

Richard Fain will step down as chair of Royal Caribbean Group's board of directors later this year. Jason Liberty, the company's president and chief executive since January 2022, was elected by the board of directors to succeed Fain in the fourth quarter of 2025. Liberty said: "Richard's leadership has been nothing short of transformative. Under his leadership, the Royal Caribbean Group has become the leading vacation company – with industry leading brands, ships, destinations and people." Fain, meanwhile, said it is "time to hand the wheel to the next generation of exceptional talent at Royal Caribbean Group". "I am very confident that under Jason's strong leadership, the Royal Caribbean Group will accelerate to even greater heights in the years ahead," he added. Fain has chaired Royal's board of directors since 1988.

Leadership shake-up at UKHospitality to 'turbocharge' growth

UKHospitality has announced a leadership shake-up, which sees chief executive Kate Nicholls OBE promoted to the role of chair – the organisation's first full-time paid chair. Nicholls, who was a driving force behind bringing UKHospitality to prominence during the pandemic, will be succeeded by the group's deputy chief executive Allen Simpson. Meanwhile, non-executive chair Steve Cassidy will transition into the role of president. UKHospitality said the new set up would allow Nicholls and Simpson to deliver a new, "bolder" strategy with a view to "turbocharging further growth" and delivering more for members and the wider industry. Of Nicholls' promotion, UKHospitality said: "This natural next step reflects the increased size and scope of the organisation and her position as a champion of the sector and its leading voice with successive governments." In his new role, Simpson will oversee day-to-day leadership of UKHospitality.

Grenada appoints new CEO with Petra Roach poised to move on

The Grenada Tourism Authority has appointed Stacey Liburd (pictured) as its new chief executive, with incumbent Petra Roach poised to take up a new senior leadership role with Wyndham Hotels and Resorts. Liburd, who has more than 15 years' experience in destination marketing and tourism development, joins from the Anguilla Tourist Board, where she was director of tourism. She has also held senior sales and marketing roles in the hospitality sector, and overseen campaigns and partnerships globally. "Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique are destinations of extraordinary beauty, culture, and potential," said Liburd. "I look forward to working closely with our industry partners to further elevate our brand, strengthen our presence in key markets, and ensure tourism continues to bring meaningful, sustainable benefits to our people.” Liburd also paid tribute to Roach "for her outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to Grenada’s tourism sector". "She has laid a strong and meaningful foundation, and I am deeply grateful for the legacy she leaves and the example she has set," Liburd added.
