Ryanair carried 16.9 million passengers in August, up 52% from 11.1 million in August 2021. It comes after Ryanair passenger numbers nearly doubled in July from 9.3 million in July 2021 to 16.8 million a year later.
August was the eighth consecutive month both Ryanair passenger numbers and load factor grew, or remained at a peak level. Load factor in August was 96%, matching July. By comparison, Ryanair carried seven million passengers in January on a load factor of 79%.
Group-wide, Ryanair operated more than 92,800 flights in August.
Wizz Air, meanwhile, carried 4.96 million passengers in August, up 38.5% from 3.58 million in August 2021. Load factor was 90.5%, a year-on-year improvement from 83.6%.
Wizz was also able to reduce carbon emissions per passenger kilometre by nearly 12% from 60.4 grams in August 2021 to 53.4 grams this August, all while increasing its load factor.
