Some 1.28 million Brits will take to the slopes this winter, up from last year’s 1.12 million according to YouGov research commissioned by ski chalet specialist Le Ski.
The data also highlighted how the majority of British skiers (81%) typically travel only once a year to ski, while 19% take multiple ski trips.
“We already have 60% of our programme sold for this winter,” said Le Ski founder Nick Morgan. “This is a great indicator of a post-Covid recovery that is seeing more and more skiers coming back to the mountains.”
According to the figures, around 13% of UK skiers currently opt for catered chalets rather than other forms of accommodation such as hotels (50%) and self-catered properties (29%).
Morgan added the popularity of chalets had endured despite a "considerable fall" in availability following Brexit, which has made it harder for UK firms to "post" seasonal workers to staff chalets, and Covid.
Le Ski’s findings complement data published on Tuesday (26 September) by aviation analytics firm Cirium and ski specialist Ski Solutions, which showed the ski market was edging closer to 2019 levels despite the financial headwinds.
