The deal, which sees the Hungarian carrier land 15 daily slot pairs from Norwegian, means Wizz will base four additional A321neos at the airport from spring 2022.
Additional low-cost routes will be “announced in due course”, with the Gatwick investment also creating “significant inbound opportunities” for Wizz Air Hungary.
Wizz opened its Gatwick base in October 2020 and group chief executive Jozsef Varadi said the deal was “further evidence of our commitment” to the airport.
“Acquiring airport slots at Gatwick will enable us to enhance our presence and competitive position in the London market. We continue to develop our business in United Kingdom and remain committed to making air travel affordable for all. The 2022 season has the potential to be a tremendous opportunity for UK aviation to get back on its feet,” said Varadi.
