Video transcript
Charlotte: Welcome to our In The Spotlight video with Scenic and Emerald Cruises. Vicky, for agents who may not be as familiar with the brands, could you give us an introduction to them both?
Vicky: Of course. Thank you Charlotte. So, yes, at Scenic and Emerald Cruises we are one company that is actually split into two incredible brands. So you've got Scenic, where you've got the Scenic river cruises. You've also got the Discovery Yachts, and we have our land-based journeys as well for touring. We then have Emerald Cruises, which also has the river cruise element. And then we have our sun-seeking Super Yachts. So it’s really exciting to have all those products under the one company shell.
Charlotte: Thank you. And they're family run brands aren't they? Tell us a bit about the impact that that has.
Vicky: So Glen [Moroney] actually owns the business, and we are actually turning 40 next year so it's a really exciting time to be part of the business. So Glen is based in Australia, which is where the company first started. And we actually own our own ships, we employ all our staff, we have our own shipyards as well where we build our own ships. So it means that everything's really looked after in-house. We've got full autonomy over everything. And we can really make sure that we are looking after our customers from the service element, and we can also make sure that these ships are exactly how we want them to be, so it's a really nice touch.
And actually Glen's wife did some of the interior designing on some of our river ships. So it really is a nice touch and he really is within the business and gets involved in the day-to-day running of the company, which is fab.
Charlotte: Thank you. And what are the unique selling points of small ship cruising that agents can talk about with their clients?
Vicky: So I always think it's really hard to discuss small ship cruising, because what is small ship cruising these days? So as a brand, we sell cruises from 68 passengers all the way up to 228 (soon to be 270). So that is a really small element of small ship cruising. But what it means to your guests is they get a really personalised experience onboard our ships. It means that we can cater for those dietary requirements. It means that we can have that service for those guests where we are going the extra mile, we are really making it special for them. And even to the extent where we have butlers in some of our suites on Scenic and they can really personalise the cabin, they can personalise the experience for your guests onboard as well. So it really is about going the extra mile, having the customers have an experience they're going to take away and remember for the rest of their lives.
Charlotte: And I know you've recently announced some very exciting news! So tell us everything that we need to know.
Vicky: So we are announcing the launch of a brand new Discovery Yacht. So this is going to be called the Scenic Ikon, and she is launching in April 2028. She's going to give you all the benefits of our existing Scenic Discovery Ships, so the Eclipse I and the Eclipse II, but she's going to be so enhanced. We are talking 15 different dining venues, including a tapas option. We've also got a plant-based kitchen as well. We are talking about having the two helicopters as always. We have then got a custom-built submersible for the ship as well. We have an incredible yacht club area, so we've got a pool on the deck. We've got a seating area around it, which looks phenomenal on the pictures and you've still got that sleek design. The other thing I'm going to mention is she's got a two-floored spa. So our Senses Spa is going to be over two floors. And she's going to be sailing in the Mediterranean, the Aegean, Europe and Antarctica. So it is really, really exciting.
Charlotte: Thank you. And finally, tell us what support is available for agents.
Vicky: Yes, we've got a really good support team at Scenic and Emerald. So we've got our trade team that are based in the office, and then we have got the team on the road as well. And what that means for you as our agents means that we can really support you, whether it's training in store, you want to get a bit more information. You want some marketing assets for your social media. Or we can even actually host things like, coffee mornings for your customers, and we can come and do training with your customers or with the staff as well. We also have a really good Facebook page, and that's called Scenic and Emerald Cruises Totally Trade and we put offers on there, we put competitions on there, and so we try and update some nice lift-and-shift offers that you can use on your social media. And any content we put on there you can use for your own usage. And that's going to be really important now with the launch of Scenic Ikon to get all the latest information about it.
So use the Facebook page and please do use the trade team as well. We are here to help you and help you grow your river cruise and ocean business.
Charlotte: Fantastic. Thank you for sharing all of that great information Vicky, and thank you for watching our In The Spotlight video with Scenic and Emerald Cruises.
