Working alongside Citizens Advice Manchester (CAM), Abta’s charitable arm also achieved benefit gains of £23,000 for industry professionals who struggled last year due to cost of living pressures.
The organisations work together to offer a "confidential and supportive" advice service to help people get back on their feet and take control of their finances.
CAM provides a dedicated case worker giving advice over the phone. CAM’s advice is "often seen as life-changing, making a profound difference to not only the beneficiaries’ finances but also to their mental health and wellbeing".
As part of the service, Abta LifeLine provides confidential financial advice, providing a dedicated case worker to people who need to get back on track.
Speaking at the start of Debt Awareness Week (24-30 March), Abta LifeLine director Trudie Clements said Abta LifeLine can assist with a wider range of issues – including help with energy bills, food and replacing essential household items.
Clements, who has led the charity the last 15 years, said: “We know there are more people in our community struggling with their finances. If you, or someone you know, is struggling with debt, then please tell them about the support LifeLine can provide.
“No one should be embarrassed at coming forward. Everything is treated in the strictest confidence."
