Albatros Expeditions and Polar Latitudes have resolved to "coordinate and combine" their Arctic and Antarctic operations. The newly formed alliance will head into the 2025/26 season with a fleet of four ships, including Albatros’s flagship new-build Ocean Albatros.
Albatros recently became sole owner of the ship, which it plans to operate on a year-round basis. The brand has also secured another X bow ship, Ocean Victory, on a long-term charter for Antarctic sailings.
Other ships in the newly combined fleet include Seaventure and Ocean Nova. Together, the two brands said the arrangement would combine their experience operating polar expeditions, extend their reach across "diverse market sectors" and ensure low-emission operations.
Polar Latitudes, meanwhile, brings leadership in the Citizen Science space and a record of supporting NGOs and their efforts to protect fragile polar environments and eco-systems.
John McKeon, Polar Latitudes’ chief executive, hailed the move "a great step forward for both companies". "Our combined resources and shared values will make us stronger as polar tour operators and will lead to expanded offerings for our adventurous travellers," he added.
Albatros founder Soren Rasmussen said the partnership would strengthen both brands and ensure they go forward "ready for future challenges".
The two lines will continue to operate under their existing brands and will, over time, seek to combine their heritage, culture and product offerings.
Albatross’s incoming chief executive Patrick Shaw added: “Our ambition is to create the most trusted and reliable brand for our customers and business partners by learning from, and building on, each others’ strengths."
