The latest vessel, AmaMelodia, has been unveiled just a few months after the line launched its first ship, AmaMagdalena, on the lesser-known Colombian river.
AmaMelodia has capacity for just 64 passengers in 32 cabins, which feature twin balconies to allow guests to take in the river’s scenery. Onboard facilities include a restaurant, lounge, sun deck, pool, gym and massage room.
The ship has been designed to “reflect a deep appreciation for Colombian culture and artistry”, according to AmaWaterways, including hand-crafted decor and the use of regional ingredients in dishes.
AmaWaterways chief executive Catherine Powell added: “Launching these two ships has been an extraordinary collaboration with our Colombian partners.
"Together, we are not only creating unforgettable travel experiences for our guests but also helping to build a sustainable foundation for tourism that benefits local communities along the river.”
Colombia’s tourist office ProColombia is promoting the Magdalena river as a “hub for sustainable tourism”, with AmaWaterways becoming the first major river cruise operator to offer trips on the river.
Passengers can choose between two seven-night itineraries - Magic of Colombia and Wonders of Colombia - which also include excursions such as a private performance of the Barranquilla Carnival and a jazz concert in Mompox.
