The adults-only line insists the changes, which will take effect on 7 October, come as part of a "strategic decision designed to make the experience better" and to offer passengers more transparency and flexibility.
The new VoyageFair Choices model includes three fare types – the Base fare, the Essential fare and the Premium fare.
The non-refundable Base fare features a new basic WiFi package for one device per passenger designed for social media, messaging and light browsing.
Dining reservations open 15 days before sailing, while changes to names, cabins or dates are not permitted.
Virgin Voyages said this fare type is "an ideal choice for Sailors [passengers] who know their plans and prefer straightforward savings".
The Essential fare includes WiFi for one device per passenger, with social media, messaging, browsing and audio calling.
This option includes a 45-day dining reservation window along with added flexibility to adjust voyages dates using a Future Voyage Credit. Name changes are also allowed for other select passengers travelling in the group.
The Premium fare, meanwhile, delivers more benefits than the other two fare types.
For the first time, Sea Terrace categories and below will enjoy a 60-day dining reservation, previously only available for suite guests.
Premium also includes Premium WiFi for two devices per passenger with streaming and video capabilities, an included drinks credit and access to a priority support line for pre-voyage booking.
The line said this fare is designed for passengers "who want greater convenience, more benefits and maximum flexibility".
It will be $45 more per person per night than the Essential fare. For RockStar and Mega RockStar Quarters, dining reservations now open 120 days before departure.
Virgin Voyages will also display service gratuities as a separate line item at the time of booking.
The four-ship line said: "These contributions will now be shown clearly so Sailors know exactly how they are applied."
It added that the total cost of a voyage does not change, and passengers can pre-pay at a discounted rate of $20 per passenger per night or settle onboard at $22 per passenger per night.
Virgin Voyages chief executive Nirmal Saverimuttu said: “Travellers expect clarity and choice from airlines and hotels, and Virgin Voyages is the first to bring that same simplicity and pricing model to cruising.
“This isn’t about gimmicks or fine print. We’re making it easier to book a voyage with confidence while knowing that once you’re onboard, the experience is unmistakably Virgin: elevated and unforgettable.”
Saverimuttu believes between 60% and 70% of passengers will choose the Essential fare.
John Lovell, Virgin Voyages board member and senior adviser, added: "People want more flexibility, more transparency and more control over how they vacation. "This model is built for the modern traveler and another example of Virgin pushing the industry forward.”
