Grenada’s tourism chief says the country welcomes the opening of InterContinental Resort Grenada this November – but has no intention of attracting the “mass-market” product of some other Caribbean islands.

Randall Dolland, Chairman of Grenada Tourism Authority, says the island nation will never take a 'mass market' approach to tourism

The beachfront hotel joins a small collection of five-star establishments, including Six Senses, Silversands and Calabash, a Relais and Chateaux member.

The tourism board is keen to emphasise, however, that this launch will not compromise Grenada’s reputation as one of the Caribbean’s least commercialised destinations.

“We hope never to see a 600-room hotel here,” Randall Dolland, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Grenada Tourism Authority, told TTG in London last week.

He went on to stress that – though the country welcomes luxury product – it won’t be copying the “all-inclusive, mass market” approach of its neighbouring Caribbean islands.
