It will be a busy year for luxury openings in Thailand including the “urban sanctuary” of Aman Nai Lert Bangkok. Aman’s 36th property has been designed by Jean-Michel Gathy and features 52 suites, an exclusive Aman Club, multiple bars and restaurants, plus a spa and wellness centre. Opens: April
For some rooms with serious views, check out Ritz-Carlton’s long-awaited debut in the Thai capital. Located within the One Bangkok skyscraper, Ritz-Carlton Bangkok overlooks Lumpini Park with the 260 rooms and suites highlighting these views with floor-to-ceiling windows. The hotel also features a range of F&B outlets and a spa. Open now
In neighbouring Cambodia, Shangri-La has opened its first resort in the country’s capital. Shangri-La Phnom Penh is located within a landmark skyscraper where panoramic views of the Mekong river can be enjoyed by guests staying in its 303 rooms and suites. Open now.
Other debutants in south-east Asia include InterContinental Halong Bay Resort in Vietnam where views of the fabled and endlessly photographed bay will be the big attraction. The resort itself offers 174 rooms and suites, 60 residences and 41 private villas, as well as six restaurants, rooftop bar and spa. Opens: Q2
India’s luxury newcomers this year include Anantara’s first property in the destination. Anantara Jewel Bagh Jaipur aims to offer a “window into a bygone era” through its intricate design. The 150 rooms and suites overlook the courtyard or city, while dining options will blend modern and traditional Rajasthani cuisine. Open now
A more remote option in the Indian Himalayas will be Shakti Prana, a new retreat from walking specialist Shakti Himalaya on the site of the former Shakti 360 Leti property. The retreat will have just seven cabins, each with a sitting room, bathroom and bedroom and framed by a spectacular mountain backdrop. Opens: October
The team behind luxury favourite Qualia in Queensland’s Whitsunday Islands is set to open a new resort. The Sundays on Hamilton Island’s Catseye Beach will provide 59 rooms, beachside pool and seafood restaurant by chef Josh Niland. Opens: April
