Bryony Penberthy, an agent from Newells Travel in Newquay, which operates 11 branches across Cornwall, highlighted strong demand for local departures and alerted Tui to the dynamic packaging opportunities.
The operator said it had acted on her feedback, launching packages from Newquay to Alicante, Faro and Malaga with Ryanair. An inbound service from Eurowings also permits city breaks to Dusseldorf.
Penberthy said: "We’re really excited to see Tui now offering holidays from Newquay. It’s a fantastic move that reflects the feedback from our teams on the ground, who’ve seen clear demand from customers wanting more choice and convenience from their local airport.
“It’s a real win for our stores and for Cornwall.”
Jill Cunningham, Tui’s director of retail, omnichannel and third-party sales, said: “Offering wider choice and flexibility has been an essential part of our plans for some time and we know how much customers value flying from their local airport.
“I’d like to send a special thanks to Bryony and her colleagues in Cornwall for bringing the opportunity in Newquay to our attention and for working with us to help secure her customers more flexible holiday options.”
Tui’s Newquay expansion is a piece of good news for local agents after Ambassador Cruises announced it would no longer offer Falmouth departures, meaning customers must travel to Bristol.
Meanwhile, at the opposite end of the UK, Tui has also confirmed 10 package destinations from Prestwick have been added, all on Ryanair flights. They include Pisa, Barcelona, Palma, Alicante, Faro, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Malaga and Murcia.
Cunningham added: “Travellers from Glasgow will now have direct access to city adventures in Pisa and Barcelona alongside beach breaks in destinations including the Canary Islands.”
