A man, who saw his wife and another British tourist fatally struck by a car during a shore excursion in Oman, has said he believes the group were targeted deliberately.
Eric Lindley, 70, and wife Audrey, had booked the Fred Olsen cruise to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary and were visiting the ancient city of Salahah when the incident happened last month.
Lindley, who is recovering in a British hospital from the injuries he sustained in the collision, believes the car was deliberately driven at the group of western tourists.
The Times reports nephew Andrew Lindley as saying: “Eric is certain that it was deliberate. He has a clear recollection of what happened. He had got off the coach and was walking towards the back when the car sped up and crashed into him. Then he saw the driver continue and deliberately hit his wife and the other woman.”
Police in Oman have said a 22-year-old man was later arrested in connection with the collision on September 27 and has since appeared in court.
The line confirmed two women died in the incident, with a third male serious injured. The Lindleys were travelling on Boudicca, which was sailing a 14-night Arabian cruise.
