All the Canary islands have been at the lowest Level 1 or “green” tier of health alerts and restrictions since the summer.
But the Canary Islands Ministry of Health said on Thursday (11 November) that Fuerteventura would be moving to the Level 2 or “amber” alert level from Monday (15 November), after Covid cases jumped by more than 130% in a week on the island.
Level 2 restrictions include measures such as limiting the number of people from different households who can meet to eight and reduced capacity at indoor markets. The Canary Island’s system includes four levels of restrictions.
Fuerteventura will remain at Level 2 until 25 November but this will be subject to “periodic” assessments.
Across the entire Canaries, there has been a rise in Covid cases of just under 20% over the past week, leading the health ministry to advise about the importance of maintaining measures to prevent the further spread of the virus.
