Almost a third of easyJet’s 22 routes to Morocco are from the UK, with the carrier having launched services in 2006.
EasyJet carries more than one million passengers to and from Morocco annually. It is the second largest airline in Marrakech and the fifth largest operator to the country overall.
EasyJet chief executive Johan Lundgren said: “We remain committed to Morocco and are pleased to further strengthen our partnership with the Moroccan National Tourist Office [MNTO]. Through the contract we are signing today, we plan to work hand-in-hand with the MNTO to promote tourism in the country this upcoming winter season.
“This year easyJet is operating 22 routes to and from Marrakech and Agadir – more than double for the same period the previous year – as well as returning to service Essaouira from summer.”
Adel El Fakir, MNTO chief executive, said the two were also working together on a long-term agreement for the next five years. “EasyJet is a major player in some of our strategic destinations such as Agadir, Essaouira and Marrakech, and we are aiming to expand this partnership to other destinations” he said.
“The opportunity today is also to foster the partnership with easyJet holidays.”
