The agency, which this year retained its place in the Top 50 Travel Agencies by TTG, said route had been three years in the making, and underscored its ambition to "champion connectivity" for the Scottish Highlands.
Murray’s five-week Gran Canaria programme will take off on 17 February 2026, offering weekly flights to the Canaries. It follows the launch of Murray’s one-day Lapland trip this coming December, which sold out in three days resulting in the addition of a second departure.
“This has been almost three years in the making, and we couldn’t be prouder,” said Murray Travel co-founder Scott Murray. “As a Highland business, we’ve always believed in the potential of our local airport, and we’re delighted to finally bring this project to life.
"Gran Canaria is a hugely popular destination, and now Highland travellers can fly direct from their doorstep – no long layovers or stressful connections needed. And no driving up the A9 at 2am after a long flight."
If the programme proves successful, Murray said the agency would look to expand it with additional destinations and dates in future seasons. "The first flight isn’t just a one-off, it’s the start of something much bigger."
Murray will offer the route flight-only or as part of a full package, both available exclusively from the agency. The package programme is being supported with a range of handpicked hotels, guided excursions and tailor-made extras to suit all clients, including families.
Holidays will be sold under a dedicated package holiday brand, MTHolidays, set up to facilitate the charter programme.
Besides Atol protection, selling points include low deposits, flexible payment options, return airport transfers, a 15kg per person luggage allowance, and the services of an in-resort team.
"The dream is to make the Highlands feel less cut off,” Murray continued. “We’ve proven with Lapland the appetite is there – people want unique, high-quality travel experiences that start right here at home. This is just the beginning."
Graeme Bell, general manager of Inverness airport, added: “The launch of the first-ever direct route from Inverness to Gran Canaria is a great addition to our schedule, offering Highland travellers a new opportunity for some winter sun.
"It is a great addition to the growing leisure flight options from Inverness airport, and we look forward to welcoming passengers heading off to the Canary Islands.”
Murray Travel has branches in Inverness, Nairn, Forres and Elgin. It placed as one of Scotland top three travel agencies at this year’s TTG Top 50.
