A cut in Air Passenger Duty heads the Scottish Passenger Agents’ Association wishlist for the country’s May elections.
A SPAA delegation met with Scottish MPs and MSPs ahead of the Scottish Parliament elections to present the association’s manifesto. Matters of interest included:
* A 50% reduction in APD.
* Encouragement and protection of direct regional flights to and from Scotland.
* Improved surface access to airports.
* Continued investment in rail.
* Protection of internal Scottish ’lifeline’ air and ferry routes.
* UK and European industry legislation.
The association was seeking the views of MPs and MSPs on these issues, prior to briefing members in advance of polling day.
SPAA President Alan Glen said, "This year is a hugely important year politically, not only for the whole UK with the impending EU Referendum, but also for Scotland - with the Holyrood Election followed by the devolution of significant powers.”
“We have already made clear our pragmatic view that APD must, as promised by the current government, be reduced by 50% in one step during the new Parliamentary term.”
Glen added that SPAA remained politically neutral but was keen to provide members with as much information as possible on key issues so as to inform their voting decisions.
