The Home Office announced on Thursday (29 June) that Brits wanting to take advantage of the scheme to work and travel around New Zealand will see the age limit increase from 30 to 35 from Saturday (1 July). Moreover, Britons and Kiwis will be able to stay in their host country for up to three years.
“The expansion of our visa schemes opens up opportunities for even more young Brits and Kiwis to make lasting connections, develop skills and use the life-changing experience to contribute – both to their host country and once they return home,” said home secretary Suella Braverman while visiting the country.
Her words were echoed by Sam Pass, acting British high commissioner to New Zealand, who said “more Brits will be able to enjoy a slice of southern hemisphere hospitality”.
New Zealand is not the only country the UK has youth mobility scheme agreements with, as Britain has struck similar agreements with the likes of Australia, Canada, South Korea and Monaco.
