HX Expeditions has announced the launch of the HX Alaska Course, the first in a new series of Arctic educational courses developed with longstanding educational partner the University of Tasmania (UTAS).
Reinforcing HX Expeditions' commitment to science-led, immersive expedition experiences, and following the success of its Antarctica pre-departure course, the new Alaska programme is the first in a new series of university-backed Arctic educational courses. Future courses are planned for Greenland, Iceland, Arctic Canada, Northwest Passage and Svalbard.
The free online course helps guests prepare for expeditions to Alaska by deepening their understanding of the region’s wildlife, landscapes, ocean systems and Native communities before they travel.
The course includes four 30-minute modules: Essential Alaska, Alaska Ecosystem Primer, Iconic Alaska Species and Responsible Alaska Tourism. Guests who complete all four receive a Certificate of Attendance, while HX Explorers loyalty members also earn points.
HX Expeditions Chief Scientist, Dr Verena Meraldi, said the expansion reflects the company’s commitment to combining travel with education.

By giving guests the chance to learn before they travel, we are helping them arrive not just excited, but informed, curious and ready to engage more deeply with every experience on board and ashore.”
