Frasers Travel, which has been based in the Ayrshire town of Saltcoats since 1986, on Tuesday (18 August) announced it had ceased trading, thanking customers for their "loyalty and support" over the years.

One member of Frasers staff revealed on social media the team had been "working as normal" before being told the business was closing that afternoon, prompting messages of support from clients.

Now, Dean Greenwood, Director of Kent-based Jackwood Travel which is some nine hours away from Saltcoats by car, has reached out to Frasers staff on social media, offering them opportunities to continue their careers in travel as home-based travel agents.

The post read: "[I've] seen the sad news that Frasers Travel has closed. Any staff on this group? If you're looking to continue your career in travel as a homeworker, with no upfront costs, then please reach out. It doesn't matter where you are based."

Greenwood, whose business is a part of Not Just Travel, told TTG he decided to make contact after learning how staff had been unaware of the announcement.

"These people are now in a situation where on Monday, they were going to work as normal and on Wednesday, it's all over," he said. "I mean, they were posting on Facebook a couple hours before they received the news."

'We'd be delighted to have them'

Jackwood Travel has several homeworkers on its books. Greenwood said he would be happy to snap up the former Frasers employees – even if they're based hundreds of miles away from Jackwood's head office in Kent's Manston.

"The fact that they're based up in Scotland, and we're not, means they'd most likely be home-based, but we'd be delighted to have them," he explained. 

"They've worked in the industry for years and have got their own client base that are currently not being served, so it'd be mutually beneficial."

Greenwood explained the Frasers brand's longevity history had also struck a chord with him. "I hate seeing good independent agencies close," he said. "They were quite old-school, obviously, having been around since 1986, so it was really sad to see."

Jackwood Travel had not received any approaches from former Frasers employees when TTG contacted Greenwood on Friday (21 August). 

Frasers Travel's closure concludes a difficult financial period for the family-run business. In its most recent accounts, covering the year to April 2025, the company reported a small profit, but warned there remained "significant doubt" over its ability to continue as a going concern.

It cited the lingering effects of the Covid pandemic, including "reduced demand" and revenues and cancellations linked to weaker consumer confidence.
