The multi-year investment will see the line’s Vista and Signature class fleets undergo bow-to-stern upgrades, introducing new accommodation categories, expanded dining concepts and refreshed public spaces.
Holland America Line's refurb programme will focus on four Vista class ships – Oosterdam, Zuiderdam, Westerdam and Noordam – and two Signature class vessels, Nieuw Amsterdam and Eurodam.
Holland America Line president Beth Bodensteiner said the investment marked the "most ambitious guest experience update" in the brand’s 153-year history, shaped directly by passenger feedback.
"Our guests have been very clear about what they love about our ships and what they want to see more of, and Holland America Evolution is our answer to that," she said.
The programme will bring elements of the line's Pinnacle Class to its older vessels. A key example is the rollout of the Grand Dutch Café – previously exclusive to the likes of ex-UK vessel Nieuw Statendam – which will debut on Oosterdam as part of the first phase of the refit.
Oosterdam will lead the programme, with enhancements including 76 additional staterooms, among them new Solo Verandah cabins aimed at the fast-growing solo travel market, and high-end Bridgeview Suites offering panoramic forward-facing views.
The line will also introduce a reimagined Pinnacle Suite – the largest ever installed on a Vista class ship – alongside the debut of Vista Suites, a category previously reserved for newer ships in the fleet. Public spaces will also be redesigned, with new bar and restaurant concepts and a "more contemporary" aesthetic that still reflects the brand’s Dutch heritage.
The cruise line is working with long-term shipbuilding partner Fincantieri on the project, with the yard having built all 11 ships in the fleet.
Sustainability will also form a core part of the upgrades, according to Holland America Line. Refits will prioritise material reuse, circular design principles and technical enhancements aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon intensity.
Holland America Line will host eight agent ship visits in the UK this year, including its first dedicated family ship visit, with six of the events taking place onboard Nieuw Statendam and the rest on Rotterdam.
