The new destination, Sandy Cay, will sit next to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve and will be available to guests sailing with MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys.
Described as a more exclusive option to Ocean Cay, Sandy Cay will offer a quieter island experience "rooted in the natural beauty of The Bahamas". The island takes its name from its aragonite sands.
MSC Cruises said the addition of Sandy Cay forms part of its wider strategy to expand its portfolio of private destinations, while maintaining a strong emphasis on environmental preservation and authenticity. MSC and Explora's passengers can start visiting the island from 2028.
Alongside the new island announcement, MSC Cruises confirmed further enhancements to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, a former industrial sand excavation site turned leisure and conservation destination.
Planned upgrades include new dining venues, additional beach concepts catering to both families and adults, and expanded areas for relaxation. The cruise line will also introduce more immersive experiences focused on marine conservation.
MSC Cruises said the developments are designed to evolve guest offering in line with demand, including offering "seamless" ship-shore experiences, while continuing to respect the natural environment of the destination.
