The 190-passenger vessel – the highest-capacity ship in the fleet – was officially named on Thursday (26 March) ahead of its maiden 2026 season sailing the Rhine and Moselle rivers.
Katy Berzins, head of Tui River Cruises, said the launch represents both an "evolution" in scale and concept for the brand. "Tui Aria is really important for us," she told TTG shortly before the line confirmed it had placed an order for two "methanol-ready" vessels.
"It allows us to bring more customers onto our product, but also reflects how we’re evolving the concept – keeping some of the firm favourites, like our Italian offering Verdastro, while testing out new ideas, like the swimming pool."
Aria joins sister ships Tui Isla, Tui Maya and Tui Skyla on European waterways, operating itineraries from Amsterdam, Basel and Frankfurt. Aria was acquired by Tui River Cruises from another line around 18 months ago.
'We're seeing couples in their 20s'
Berzins urged agents to challenge outdated perceptions of river cruising when selling the product.
"There’s still a belief that river cruise is for older customers," she said. "But we’re seeing couples in their 20s and 30s, multigenerational families – there isn’t a single demographic anymore."
She described the product as a "premium floating boutique hotel" that allows customers to visit multiple cities such as Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest in one trip.
"For agents, it’s important to bring that to life for clients, and showcase how modern, relaxed and flexible the experience is," she added.
'Lifeless' spaces overhauled
The ship has undergone a significant refurbishment, with redesigned social spaces aimed at increasing guest usage and "enhancing onboard atmosphere".
"We’ve taken spaces that were quite lifeless and turned them into places where customers want to sit and spend time," Berzins explained. "It’s about softening the design, adding service throughout the day and creating a more relaxed, sociable environment."

She added that flexible dining and varied entertainment remain Tui's key market differentiators.
"Guests don’t want fixed dining anymore. They want flexibility and choice," she said. "We’ve created different spaces so customers can decide how they spend their meals, whether that’s a full, multi-course spread or something more informal."
Agents 'hugely important' to Tui
The launch comes as Tui River Cruises continues to expand both capacity and its route network, with Aria sailing nine itineraries including three new options across the Rhine and Moselle.
The line has also introduced new regional airlift, including routes from Bristol to Amsterdam and Newcastle to Frankfurt on selected 2026 sailings.
Berzins emphasised that trade partnerships remain central to growth strategy.
"Agents are hugely important to us," she said. "They have the expertise and customer relationships that help bring river cruising to life. The more opportunities we can give them to experience the ships, the better they can sell them."
When asked about opportunities for agents to sail on Aria, Berzins said: "There are multiple ships for us to manage now, and our priority is guest sailings – but where we have those pockets of availability, we're keen to invite agents on board Aria and the rest of our fleet."
Berzins also celebrated strong performance from trade partners including Hays Travel, alongside growing engagement with independents eager to get involved with the river cruise sector.
"Some of our top sellers are some of the Hays agents – we've got a really good working relationship," Berzins said. "But we're seeing a surge in demand and growth across the board, with most third-party agents outperforming themselves year on year."
Looking ahead, Berzins said the line will continue to explore new destinations beyond its core European programme and Nile sailings, including the Danube.
"We’re always looking at where demand is and where the opportunities are," she said. "Each season we want to give customers something new and exciting, so watch this space."
