Announcing the new link, Peter Ulanga, Chief Executive of Air Tanzania, said there would be a minimum of three flights per week linking the UK with Tanzania, and that tourism would be a key sales driver, with improved access to both Mt Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar's beach resorts.
Air Tanzania currently has 11 international routes, both within Africa and also to China, India and the Seychelles. It also serves 13 domestic airports, and is embarking on an expansion plan to acquire eight new aircraft over the next five years.
Mr Ulanga intends to visit the UK this autumn to meet with travel trade professionals, to discuss route requirements and help cement confidence in the new route.
