What was the inspiration for Summer Tryst?
St Lucia is home to some of the world’s most stunning natural landscapes, with its beautiful coastline, tropical rainforests, the Pitons and Sulphur Springs, as well as its vibrant heritage, culture and adventure offering. Summer Tryst was launched to celebrate Rendezvous’ 50th anniversary. The resort is owned and operated by the Barnard family, who transformed their St Lucian family home into a hotel 50 years ago. The summer programme will take place from July to September to encourage couples to reconnect and spend more quality time together. As a leading couples-only luxury resort in the Caribbean, Rendezvous offers an escape from everyday life.

What complimentary activities are included in Summer Tryst?
Summer Tryst offers complimentary activities including wine tasting, rum tasting, wood carving, art classes, nutrition classes, yoga and pilates, massage classes, group sailing and cooking classes.

What paid-for activities are included in Summer Tryst?
Rendezvous will also offer supplementary photography classes with a scenic trip, a rum distillery tour, a cocoa plantation and chocolate-making experience, marine park dives in the Caribbean Sea, local chef “cook-off” dinner and wine pairing, as well as private couples sessions in yoga, pilates, tai chi, massage and sailing. Day trips will also be available to Sulphur Springs, which is the world’s only drive-in volcano on the south-west of the island near Soufriere, and the Pitons, two mountainous volcanoes on the south-west of St Lucia. Gros Piton is 2,619 feet above sea level, and coupled with Petit Piton is the hallmark of St Lucia’s western coast. Couples will be able to pre-book activities online, ahead of their stay.

Any other inclusions?
The package will feature local events and festivals, such as steel pan classes, St Lucia Carnival Parade of the Band – a rich display of St Lucian culture (Monday July 18 to Tuesday July 19), National Panorama Competition, hosted by the St Lucia National Steel Band Association (Friday July 15), as well as La Rose Flower Festival Parade, a flower festival and a major event in the cultural life and history of the country in August.

Which activities suit different types of couples?
Rendezvous Summer Tryst offers something for everyone. Supplementary yoga, pilates, tai chi, massage and sailing classes are ideal for guests seeking a more private experience. Activities such as group sailing classes, cooking classes and yoga classes are great for more sociable couples looking to integrate and learn new skills.

Why is it so important for couples to spend ‘quality time’ together on a holiday?
Today life is so fast paced and couples are no longer spending enough quality time together. They are constantly distracted by family responsibilities, work, TV and even social media. A holiday or honeymoon at Rendezvous is designed to allow couples to relax and recharge their relationships, away from the distractions of home, work and family.

Describe the renovations that took place at the end of last year and what’s new…
The resort undertook a $12.5 million renovation in November 2015, which upgraded the five-star hotel’s accommodation, resort facilities and food and beverage outlets. Following the renovations, we launched Malabar Beach Club, a barefoot restaurant, with views of the Caribbean Sea. We also upgraded the hotel’s Seaside and Verandah Suites.

In 50 years at Rendezvous, what has been the most romantic act there?
Seven days of surprises leading to a sunset proposal under an arch of tropical blooms.

If you had one tip for keeping romance alive, what would it be?
Always steal time to relax and enjoy each other.
