The first luxury sleeper train in England and Wales was launched to much pomp on 4 July, and is now all set to make its maiden journey on 21 July, six months after its launch was announced.
Departing from London Victoria Station,The Britannic Explorer, a Belmond Train will head to Wales for its inaugural voyage, before making its way down to Cornwall on 25 July.
Crafted by London-based studio Albion Nord, in collaboration with Luke Edward Hall, Mel Campion and Olly Fathers, the eight-carriage sleeper is designed with a ‘timeless and modern British aesthetic’. It features 18 cabins (three grand suites and 15 suites) and an observation carriage with a botanically-inspired bar.
For the wellness enthusiasts, it has an onboard spa created in partnership with Wildsmith. Guests will also enjoy dishes showcasing sustainable British produce, created by Michelin-starred chef Simon Rogan and executive head chef Sven-Hanson Britt.
“Designing the Britannic Explorer has been an extraordinary opportunity to tell a new story of British luxury – one rooted in craft, landscape and character,” said Camilla Clarke, creative director at Albion Nord. “We wanted the interiors to feel refined yet bold, timeless yet unexpected – much like Britain itself.
Every element, from the palette and materials to the artwork and antiques, was chosen to evoke a sense of place and personality. It has been a privilege to collaborate with Belmond and an inspiring community of British makers to bring this vision to life.”
Each itinerary offers a variety of off-board experiences. In Cornwall, Belmond offers coastal sailing and yoga sessions by the sea. In the Lake District, guests can go wild swimming, rowing and paddle boarding. Meanwhile, art classes, hiking, wood-fired saunas, and lavender farm visits are available in the heart of Wales.
Other Belmond trains in the UK include the British Pullman, which offers day journeys through England, and the Royal Scotsman, Scotland’s only luxury touring sleeper train.
Journeys on the Britannic Explorer start from £11,000 based on a double cabin to include a three-night itinerary, excursions, meals, wine and alcoholic beverages on board. The Wellness Suite is bookable for guests on each journey.
