Transport secretary Grant Shapps has confirmed the government will “shortly” begin to ease its 14-day quarantine on arrival rules.
In a statement to parliament today he confirmed the Joint Biosecurity Centre, Public Health England and the Chief Medical Officer had developed a categorisation of countries that will be exempted from the quarantine measures.
“This has been informed by factors including the prevalence of coronavirus within the country, and crucially, the numbers of new cases and potential trajectory in the coming weeks of the disease in the country,” he said.
Shapps added he would announce further details, including a full list of the countries and territories exempted later this week.
He also confirmed the Foreign Office was reviewing its travel advice and further details on this would be announced later this week.
