Austria’s government will meet on Wednesday to consider further restrictions, which the Austrian press said would compel visitors from Great Britain, Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands to undergo mandatory 10-day quarantine.
A report in the Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung said restrictions could be introduced as soon as Christmas Eve but that free testing would be provided.
The Austrian National Tourist Office told TTG a meeting was scheduled for Wednesday because of rising Omicron cases but could not confirm any further details.
Scientists believe 15 Omicron cases are being imported each day to the country’s ski resorts and fear an outbreak. At the start of the pandemic in 2020, the resort of Ischgl was found to be a major source of infections.
