Traveltek has appointed ITC Travel Group’s Mal Barritt as the technology company’s new chief executive.
Barritt, who has 26 years’ experience in the travel industry, is currently ITC’s chief executive and will take up his new role with Glasgow-based Traveltek in August.
He will replace Traveltek founder and current chief executive Kenny Picken, who announced he would be retiring from the business in January.
“I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Traveltek at what is undoubtedly a crucial time in the company’s development,” said Barritt. “Traveltek is renowned for its product, which revolutionised the way travel is sold.
“The team that came before me – many of whom are still there – have built up a really strong foundation. The job for me now is to build on that and to help grow the business by bringing this technology to a wider, global audience.”
Before joining ITC in September 2017, Barritt worked for some of travel’s biggest names including Destinology, Thomas Cook/MyTravel and Gold Medal. Barritt also co-founded World Travel Holdings UK, which owns the cruise brands Cruise118.com, SixStarCruises.co.uk and RiverVoyages.com.
Traveltek chairman Chris Noblet added: “I’m delighted that Mal is joining us. Given his extensive industry experience and proven track record, he makes an excellent addition to what is now an extremely solid team.”
The company’s management team has been undergoing a major change over the past year with the appointment Cressida Sergeant as chief commercial officer and Phil Astall as chief operating officer.
