The carrier, based at Johannesburg, had its operating licence suspended “indefinitely” by the South African Civil Aviation Authority on safety grounds on 12 March after incidents including engine failure. The suspension also covered low-cost sister airline Kulula.
Comair chief executive Glenn Orsmond said: “After an extensive review of Comair’s documentation by the SACAA over a five-day period, the suspension has now been lifted.
“Our operations, airport, contact centres and support teams are working to help customers get to their destinations. We’re ramping up our schedule and should have our regional and domestic services restored by tomorrow (18 March)”.
Orsmond emphasised no findings were made “regarding either flight operations or maintenance”.
Comair operates from Johannesburg to Mauritius as well as having a domestic network. Pre-Covid, Comair also operated to the remote island of St Helena.
