Cruise & Maritime Voyages has revealed it offered to assist in evacuations on Australia’s Kangaroo Island amid the country’s ongoing bushfire crisis.

Abta was one of many hit financially by the collapse of CMV (Pictured: CMV's Vasco de Gama)

The line’s Vasco da Gama cancelled a call at the island township of Penneshaw on Saturday (4 January) as a result of the escalating blazes after being advised to do so by the South Australian Country Fire Service.

CMV then offered its ship, sailing a four-night South Australian Icons itinerary at the time, to authorities to assist with the evacuation of local islanders and tourists.

Despite being told the ship’s assistance was not necessary, CMV Australia guests contributed to the Australian Red Cross’s Bushfire Relief.
