The two aircraft, one bound for Paris and the other for Gibraltar, clipped wings as they taxied, forcing flights to be suspended.
The incident happened at around 6.30am. There have been no reports of any injuries. One of the aircraft appeared to lose part of one of its wing tips in the incident, according to images sourced by the Manchester Evening News.
A MAN spokesperson said the airport suspended operations while the aircraft were assessed to ensure they were safe to taxi back to stands.
They added operations "resumed very quickly" without major delays to Manchester’s schedule.
An easyJet spokesperson said: “EasyJet can confirm the wing tips of two aircraft came into contact while taxiing to the runway at Manchester airport this morning [Friday]. The aircraft returned to stand to disembark customers."
The airline said affected passengers were provided refreshment vouchers while replacement aircraft were sought, and apologised for the disruption, adding the safety of passengers and crew was its "highest priority".
