Etihad has confirmed it is helping authorities in Australia over an alleged terrorist plot to bring down an aircraft.
Four men are in custody following a raid on a house in Sydney. The Australian Associated Press agency quoted US officials as saying that the alleged plot was well advanced when it was discovered.
Etihad, which flies to all the major Australian cities, has confirmed that it is helping with enquiries, but did not say whether it had been a definite target.
In a statement it said: “The Etihad Airways aviation security team is assisting the Australian Federal Police with its investigation and the matter is on going.
“Etihad is complying fully with the enhanced security measures at airports in Australia and monitoring the situation closely.”
Reuters reports that the alleged plotters had been communicating with Islamic State in Syria and that messages had been intercepted.
