Adventure specialist Explore has named Benin, Lebanon, Albania, Japan and Botswana as its top five destinations for 2020.
The operator said the new decade “signals a shift in the way we are travel”, including increased demand for “undiscovered” destinations.
Explore said it had seen a 110% year-on-year rise in bookings for its Benin and Togo Voodoo Discovery trip, which includes visiting a village soothsayer to learn about voodoo traditions and rituals.
There has also been strong demand for Explore’s Highlights of Lebanon trip with 60% of departures already sold out for 2020.
Albania is another destination growing in popularity with sales up by an average of 20% annually for the past four years.
Explore’s passenger bookings for Japan have tripled for 2020 as the destination basks in the positive publicity created by hosting the Rugby World Cup this autumn and the upcoming Olympics in Tokyo next year. One of the operator’s most popular trips is the 14-day Simply Japan trip.
Finally Botswana sales have risen by 30% in 2019 for Explore helped by the release of the Lion King remake this year.
