The move will apply to all arrivals in France from outside the EU and is part of a package of measures to try to combat the spread of the new Omicron variant.
French government spokesperson Gabriel Attal made the announcement on Wednesday (1 December), according to multiple media reports. But no date has yet been revealed for when the change will be implemented.
Attal added that decisions regarding travel within the EU would be discussed by European leaders later this week.
Currently fully vaccinated visitors from the UK can enter to France by showing their proof of vaccination and by completing a “sworn declaration” health form.
Unvaccinated travellers have had to provide an “essential reason” to visit France, as well as showing proof of a negative PCR or lateral flow test result taken within the previous 24 hours.
