Germany set a new monthly record for tourist arrivals in July when it welcomed 10.3 million guests for overnight stays.
According to the Federal Statistics Office, there were 44.7 million overnights in accommodation facilities of at least 10 beds between January and July – 5.6% more than in the same period last year.
The United Kingdom contributed more than 200,000 extra overnights alone.
Petra Hedorfer, chief executive of the German National Tourist Board (GNTB), said: “Since November 2009, Germany’s incoming tourism has only been seen to go one way: up. Germany’s popularity as a travel destination is growing stronger than the average, which is highlighted in July’s numbers that represent a growth of over nine percent to 10.3 million overnight stays by international visitors.”
China was the biggest riser on overnight stays with an additional 313,000, taking the total umber to 1.4 million.
