A recent poll asked almost 1,000 respondents which type of holiday or trip offers the most restful sleep – with cruise breaks coming out as the clear winner with 67% of the votes.
Hotel stays took second place with 19%, while cottage or villa breaks were third with 11%. Hostels were last, with not a single respondent opting for this holiday type.
The survey, conducted by cruise specialist cruise.co.uk, also revealed the main reasons for a restful night’s sleep on a cruise were the comfort of the cabin and the quality of the bed, both taking over a third of respondent’s top answers.
Tony Andrews, deputy managing director of cruise.co.uk, said: "It comes as no surprise that cruising has come out on top of the most restful holidays, as cruise lines have invested heavily in all aspects of passenger relaxation.
"From the quality of the mattresses and the bed linen, the bathroom amenities, the layout of the cabin, to the balcony space available – cruises are set up to wind down."
Dr. Jennifer Holland, a cruise and tourism researcher at the University of Suffolk, said: "There is a lot of new research exploring how to design cabins to achieve the best experience, from the colours of the decor to placement of the bed and texture of the furnishings."
