The CAA has defended its marketing techniques after a survey commissioned following the collapse of Lowcostravelgroup found that more than a third of holidaymakers do not know how they are financially protected.

Travel Counsellors polled 2,000 UK residents, seeking their knowledge of financial protection in travel, after the failure of Lowcosttravelgroup in July threw tens of thousands of customers’ holidays into chaos.

The research found that 57% of people believe financial protection is “extremely important” when booking their holiday, but that only 16% are “extremely clear” on how they are covered.
