The company is proposing to move its UK operation to Switzerland and combine it with Thomas Cook International, which operates in a similar market, TTG has learned.
Although Hotels4U has been discontinued as a consumer-facing brand, it still exists as a limited company. It also trades as Medhotels, Cook’s well-known B2B offering.
Much of the product previously sold by Hotels4U has already been rolled into the Thomas Cook portfolio.
“Thomas Cook Group has announced plans to combine its UK-based Hotels4U hotel-only business into the new complementary platform it has built in Switzerland," a spokesperson told TTG. “This is the latest stage in the consolidation of its complementary product and involves combining Hotels4U with Thomas Cook International (TCI) to operate from a single location from July 1.”
The move is part of Cook’s overhaul of its accommodation, with properties in the combined entity set to be sold alongside exclusive product.
Proposals are still being consulted on and are yet to be finalised.
Cook bought Hotels4U in 2008 for £21.8 million. According to the most recent accounts at Companies House, it made a pre-tax loss of £5 million for the year ended September 30, 2014.
