Jet2.com has joined Ryanair in calling for greater regulation of pre-flight alcohol sales after it was forced to divert a Birmingham-Ibiza flight due to a rowdy stag party.

'Seven million budget flyers looking for a carrier'

The airline said despite repeated warnings from the crew, the party continued to behave in an “appalling and aggressive” manner, leaving it no choice but to divert to Toulouse.

Police and airport officials were on standby to escort the revellers off the aircraft.

Jet2.com said the crew decided to suspend sales of alcohol on the flight after one member of the group was refused boarding for being “drunk and aggressive”.

Despite this, the airline said the rest of the party continued to act in a “deplorable and aggressive” fashion once airborne, despite there being families with young children present.
