The island was hit by the tail end of Storm Oliver on Saturday (12 April), prompting authorities to declare a temporary state of emergency. Some areas experienced around 6cm rainfall in a matter of hours.
The BBC reports the state of emergency has since been lifted, but warns – citing local emergency services – the rain has left behind "great quantities of mud". Local responders were called to more than 150 incidents in two regions alone.
"Heavy rainfall and flooding in Lanzarote occurred earlier today (13 April 2025) with Costa Teguise, San Bartolome and Arrecife particularly affected," said the FCDO.
"Services across the island are affected. Some hotels are currently without power. Some roads are currently affected by mud. If you are in Lanzarote or travelling to Lanzarote, follow the advice of the local authorities and monitor local weather updates."
