Huddleston, who entered Parliament in 2015 as MP for Mid Worcestershire and was formerly head of travel at Google, has moved from the Department of Media, Digital, Media & Sport to the Whips’ Office.
During his tenure as tourism minister, Huddleston faced industry anger after his comments in a heated interview with TTG editor Sophie Griffiths in December 2020.
When questioned over the lack of support government had given to travel businesses during the pandemic, Huddleston argued: “No support? Of course, you’ve had support... it may not be targeted specifically but let’s be honest and deal with facts – you did get support.”
His replacement as tourism minister has yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, Lucy Frazer, MP for South East Cambridgeshire, has moved from the Treasury to join the Department for Transport as minister of state for transport.
Frazer, formerly financial secretary and solicitor general, as well as briefly being a junior minister for prisons, joins Torbay MP Kevin Foster in the same role and reporting into new secretary of state for transport Anne-Marie Trevelyan.
